MEET THE TEACHERS

Rangi

DRUM TEACHER

Rangi is fresh into teaching but has been immersed in music and drums his whole life! He has a strong love for all aspects of drumming and enjoys both writing and playing multiple genres. Growing up he could be found in Rockhampton at his dads cover bands shows or bashing the drum kit at home. At the age of 10 he first began lessons, getting the basics down and learning rock songs from bands like Pearl Jam, Lenny Kravitz, AC/DC, Foo Fighters and the likes. Eventually he began diving into heavier and experimental genres as the technical aspects of drumming found in these really stood out to him.

By the age of 14 Rangi had already started touring up and down QLD’s East Coast with friends in their own original band.  By 18 Rangi found himself living in Brisbane playing drums in multiple bands and touring around Australia. He has since played at festivals (Groovin’ The Moo, Falls Festival, Party In The Paddock, Big Pineapple, Big Sound, Best Night Ever and many more), played national tours supporting the likes of Dune Rats, DZ Death Rays, Violent Soho, The Rubens, Tired Lion, King Parrot, Slowly Slowly, Beddy Rays (plus a ton more), has had Triple J premieres and even had one of his bands signed to BMG Records.

He may be fresh into teaching but he’s eager to share and teach everything he has learned throughout his drumming career so far!

Josh Batka

DRUM TEACHER

Valid Blue Card Holder

Joshua's passion for the drum-set came into fruition when he was at Just 15 years of age, when asked to fill in the chair as the drummer for his high school big band. From humble beginnings, the "consistently exciting and engaging" jazz drummer is rapidly establishing himself as a skilled freelancer, and educator within the city of Brisbane. Throughout his studies, Joshua has had the great fortune of being mentored by some of Australia's finest national, and international jazz musicians; such as the illustrious Darryn Farrugia, John Parker, Paul Hudson, James Whiting, Steven Newcomb, James Sandon, and John Hoffman.

Through continuing his studies at the esteemed Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University, Joshua has had a busy calendar year, with various performances with the Conservatorium’s premier big band- The Con Artists, as well as frequently performing with up-and-coming jazz musicians, within Brisbane nationally recognized venues such as Doo-Bop, The Brisbane Jazz Club, as well as high-profile performances at the Star Casino. To further satisfy his hunger for new learning, Joshua is looking forward to traveling to New York, to where he will continue his jazz education with a Masters of Music Performance, at the Manhattan School of Music.
